Background
Our client Steve Man is the IT IS
manager for the city of Lodi, California. He is charged with maintaining the
entire city’s important financial and planning data. The data is kept in many disparate
databases and in many cases, need to be shared. The more systems the city added, the more complicated his custom solution
involving using an intermediate Access database and scripting became. He then decided to look towards a
third party solution.
Requirements
Steve’s requirements were fairly straightforward. He needed to transfer data from one location to another with minimal
fuss. As the city was using a
smorgasbord of database servers including Oracle, MySql, DB2, and SQL Server,
the solution had to be versatile.
The manual execution of his Access solution was also getting old so the new
solution had to be automatic.
Lastly, the solution needed to be centralized as multiple subordinates would be
working on this project from time to time.
Solution
After some research, Steve discovered Centerprise Data Integrator. Centerprise was the perfect solution
for him because it allowed him to just transfer data one table to another and do
so no matter which database server he needed to connect to. He took advantage of Data
Integrator’s built in scheduler to automate his transfer jobs, eliminating his
need for his old manual process involving Access. And since he had his jobs running on Data Ingrator’s centralized data
integration server, he could just submit his transfer jobs and not have to worry
about leaving a program open on his desktop, stealing cpu cycles.
