Background
Our client, Luis Aragono, an IT manager for a bank in Florida, is
responsible for getting data from brokers into a mainframe for data warehousing.
He works with the broker dealer department. and was recently charged with
extracting the broker data that was stored in an Access database into a data
warehouse consisting of an IBM mainframe. The extraction was problematic since
he had to place certain values from the Access records into a template prepared
specifically for the mainframe.
Requirements
The software had to be easy to
use and be able to put the data into a predefined template that would be able to
read by the IBM mainframe. It had to be something that the client could design
and someone else could execute. And above all, it had to be something that
could be changed in an instant as new business requirements kept changing
frequently. Flexibility, scalability and ease of use needed to be combined in
one solution.
Solution
Since this was a brand-new project, this client had the
option of writing a COBOL program or looking for a software solution. He chose
the latter, since he knew that any program he wrote would have to go through a
lengthy development and QA process to make even the smallest change. He looked
around the market and tried various software solutions, but found none
satisfying his needs. Eventually he tried the Centerprise Data Integrator and it
provided a seamless solution for his requirements.
