What databases does it support?
DataMapper supports current and recent versions of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MySQL, and Access.
What are differences between Standard and Professional Editions?
DataMapper Professional has all the features of the Standard Edition plus the features related to transfer batch, database copy batch, and the scheduler.
I need to quickly move a number of large tables between Oracle and DB2. How does DataMapper help?
Database Table Copy Batch feature of DataMapper provides the ability to move large data volumes at very high speeds. Creating Database Table Copy batch is a matter of a few clicks. The powerful mapping feature of DataMapper is available should you need fine-grained control over transformations.
I often need to do complex data mapping. How do I accomplish that in DataMapper?
DataMapper provides a few pre-defined mapping patterns for simple mappings. These include field-to-field mapping, list lookup, database table lookup, and constant value. For complex mapping, you can use the rules language. Rules language is modeled after Excel formula language and is fairly straightforward to learn and use.
Can I call outside function libraries or services with DataMapper?
DataMapper is a 100% .net application. You can use function plug-in capability to call outside functions and services. Plug-in functions must be written in a .net language. Click here for a code sample.
I use Oracle and DB2. Do I need software from Oracle and IBM on my machine to use DataMapper?
DataMapper has built-in drivers for all the supported database. Just install the product and connect to your databases. You do not need client software or drivers from database vendors.
If get dates and numbers in various formats from my international business partners. Does DataMapper have the ability to read and write these dates?
DataMapper has a powerful date and numeric format engine that you can use to define any date formats for incoming or outgoing files. For instance, you can define date formats such as YYYMMDD, YYMMDD, DDMMYY, DD-MM-YY, MM/DD/YY, etc. In short, you can read and write dates and numbers in practically any format.
Does DataMapper handle EBCDIC files?
Yes. DataMapper handles virtually all flavors of EBCDIC encoding for source as well as destination.
Can I schedule data transfers in DataMapper?
DataMapper Professional Edition includes a full-featured scheduler that helps you schedule jobs at various frequencies including one time, hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly. You have a fairly fine-grained control over the schedule.
What are the different file types it supports?
DataMapper supports delimited, fixed length, and Excel files both as source and destination. It supports over a hundred encodings ranging from Unicode to ECBCIC to Asian character sets.
What are the system requirements for DataMapper?
DataMapper runs on any recent Microsoft Windows platform including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 2003 server and higher.
I often have a series of data transfer tasks that must be run in sequence. Does DataMapper handle it?
This is a common occurrence in many organizations where a series of “jobs” must be run in sequence and often there are dependencies between jobs. DataMapper’s Transfer Batch feature helps you create a job group where transfers are run in the exact order specified.
Do I need to be a programmer to use DataMapper?
No. DataMapper is designed to be used by business users. Even when you are doing complex mapping, the rules language is modeled after Excel formula language and is fairly easy to learn and use. If you are dealing with databases, a rudimentary understanding of tables and columns is enough to get started with DataMapper.
Before I transfer data, I would like to ensure that my mappings are correct. How does DataMapper help?
DataMapper has DataPreview feature that allows you to preview and refine your mapping before running the transfer. You can preview source data, destination data. You can also preview field-level data with a side-by-side view of source and destination values.
