MariaDB is an SQL-based, open-source relational database management system that drives high-volume analytical, transactional, and hybrid workloads. The database is used to store historical data and provide enterprises with data-driven insights and real-time analytics.

To leverage enterprise data stored in MariaDB for competitive advantage and monetization, integration with other systems, such as databases, CRMs, ERP systems, data warehouses, etc., is imperative. Astera Centerprise offers a built-in MariaDB connector, empowering organizations to create a holistic view of their enterprise data and use it for data-driven decision-making.

What is MariaDB Connector

MariaDB connector, a database driver, leverages on enterprise-level Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) API. The main features of the MariaDB connector are that its LGPL-licensed, becomes a good drop-in replacement for PODBC or MySQL connector, and facilitates both Unicode and ANSI modes.

How To Connect to MariaDB: Ensure Uninterrupted Access to MariaDB

The MariaDB connector functions like any other database connector that can be integrated as a source or destination in any dataflow or workflow.

The visual, code-free interface of the software makes it easy for data operators to configure the database, manipulate the data using a rich library of pre-built transformations, and make it compatible with the destination model of any supported system.

Moreover, Astera Centerprise also supports performance optimization by pushing down data to MariaDB. This setting enables the user to leverage the native computing capability of MariaDB and process data in the source or destination database.

With Astera Centerprise, you can integrate MariaDB with a range of databases, file formats, and data warehouses.

To help you understand how Astera Centerprise simplifies integration with MariaDB, we’ve identified two use cases:

Using MariaDB as a Source Object

The dataflow shown below takes data stored in MariaDB from different departments and routes the accounting data to the Oracle database.

After configuring the MariaDB source database connection, the next step is pointing the source object towards the department table in the properties page, as shown below. In addition, Centerprise gives users the option to read the entire database table simultaneously or incrementally. Here, we have selected the ‘full load’ option, which takes all the data from the source database table, routes it, and writes to the Oracle database.

Using MariaDB as a Destination Object

In this scenario, health insurance data is taken from IBM Db2, transformed, and filtered on the basis of life insurance value before it is written to MariaDB.

After configuring the connection, the properties window will allow you to specify loading preferences in the destination database. You can either select an existing table or create a new one.

Astera Centerprise also gives you the option to create separate ports for each action, so you can easily create unique mappings for each field and perform relevant actions independent of other fields.

In addition, you can select from the multiple data loading options available in the properties window. Here, we have selected the ‘bulk insert with all records in one batch,’ which loads data in one go. This write strategy delivers higher performance as compared to inserting records one-by-one or in small batches.

Running the dataflow after selecting these options will load the data into MariaDB.

How Can You Benefit from MariaDB Integration?

The MariaDB connector for Astera Centerprise requires no additional configuration or cost and delivers continuous connectivity with your enterprise systems. Here’s how this integration can benefit your organization:

Query Analytics-Ready Data

Integrate your entire database or selected tables into a unified system using the visual designer or SQL query, and access analytics-ready data to fuel your business decisions with MariaDB connector.

Maintain an Up-To-Date Database

Astera Centerprise enables bidirectional integration between MariaDB and a range of CRM and ERP systems, cloud applications, databases, and file formats, allowing users to keep their databases updated.

Automate Data Integration

Leverage automation features in Astera Centerprise to read data from MariaDB connector and write it to any other source available within the solution or vice versa. Features like workflow automation, auto-mapping, job scheduling, and dynamic layouts can speed up your data processes and accelerate time-to-value.

Generate Schema Automatically

Astera Centerprise automatically creates database tables with existing schemas based on the properties and structure of tables. This frees up developers from the database-related aspects of the integration process, enabling them to focus on process optimization.

MariaDB is a lucrative choice for business users and data operators looking to perform routine administrative and development tasks with accuracy and speed. By simplifying access to MariaDB, Astera Centerprise gives users the flexibility to consolidate data from heterogeneous sources to perform cross-database analysis and get insights into enterprise data.
